SO been on a search for info and maybe my googlefoo is not that good. I wanted to know whats better 1605 or 1604 ball screws. What would be the standard as a hobbyist? Cutting mostly non ferrous metals and hard plastics. I have in mind to up date my small machine to ball screws. I currently have nema23-269 oz @ 24vdc steppers. And Makita 701c router. I want to try use ball screws that would give my steppers a advantage of torque. I am not concerned with traveling fast. Or if there link to a good thread here about ball screws I would love to read it thanks.
1605 is more standard. 1604, being 4/5ths the travel per rotation, will be 5/4ths as torquey as a 1605 in theory
1604 would be weird. Usually it's 1204 or 1605. The lower the pitch the higher the torque though, so I guess go with the 1604s if you can find them conveniently. Personally I'm just using bigger motors and going with 1610s.
Ok thanks. I was thinking the 04 would be little more torque. Just wasn’t 100% sure. I like the idea of bigger stepper motors too. I think thats my next machine nema 34’s 4x8 foot print. So I am thinking since its only 500mm footprint I might just go with the 1204’s ball screws. I have some plates drawn up. What would be a good material to pro type mock plates to test out my design? Wood? Plastic? I don’t want to use the aluminum plate I bought for final product find out I goofed on the design.
