This project is on hold but we do have something "new", just jump to this post: 2:1 reduction that can be placed any where on C-Beam ------ So, this is the idea; a 2:1 reduction that can be placed any where on the C-Beam, besides that, a bearing block can be used to free up the end of the C-beam so both ends of the C-Beam are free and easier to mount on other V-Slots/C-beams. Some highlights: - 2:1 Reduction or 1:2 speed-up - Only one large eccentric spacer needed for adjustment (custom, not OpenBuilds part) - Special plate on both sides when gear reduction is implemented, one plate is needed for 1:1 or 1:2 speed-up - Can be used with 8mm straight rod for double drive Y-axis with single motor - 1040mm Acme screw can reach 990mm movement (with OpenBuilds XL gantry plate on a 1500mm C-Beam - 1300mm screws can reach 1220mm/4' - Low noise, less heat, compared with spur gears - Stock GT3 (3GT, GT2 3mm) Not cheap, but we'll see how it evolves. Just an early picture: -Ronald
Very cool reduction, But for the acme why not just use TR8*4 instead of TR8*8? the 8*4 has 4mm of travel per turn instead of 8mm? Love the UHMW Rack! Oh and is that a new type of C-Beam on the way?
