My shop vac was too noisy so I switched to a 1hp dust collector. The problem was, the dust collector loses all its efficiency when you go down to 2.5". I decided to go with a 3" hose to the dust shoe. I made a new dust shoe to accommodate the 3" hose and added a support bracket so it wasn't flopping around. It probably would be more efficient with a 4" hose, but I didn't want to deal with the weight of a 4" hose. So far the 3" seems to have enough suction.
