Hello everybody - first and foremost a great thanks for a formidable forum.

I've fallen a bit in love with having a retractable 3d probe on my workbee. Well that is until i figure out how complex this is going to get.

so that would be a probe that would sit a precise and known offset from the spindle - and be able to be extended down to do probing, and then retracted up to a safe place, protected from chips and so on...

Anyone has any experience with such a setup?

It would just be a wider "dual" z axis with a separate stepper for height control on the the probe. 2020 with some mini v wheels would do just fine.

As for the digital side, any controller or software that is capable of probing on a larger scale should be more than capable of operating a 4th axis.
