I'm fortunate enough to have a metal scrapyard led than 10 miles from my house and sometimes there are some nice pieces laying in the heap. About a year ago I nabbed this plasma cutoff of 1.5" thick aluminum. It was dinged up and I'm in the middle of facing it now that I got my custom but Sphinx inspired machine running not to long back. It seems "harder" than other aluminum I've cut before. Is there any way to identify a mystery aluminum? Google was not much help here. The chips seem to make a shiny side and an opaque side even when the surface behind cut is already shiny. The chips are well chips so I don't feel it's any type of cast as that should be more powder like. I'm no expert though. When faced is makes a very nice mirror finish but I imagine that doesn't help to much. For those eagle eyed readers the corner of the work in my image is not faced yet which is why it's not shiny. Any suggestions or feedback? Steve
