Hi, My build is almost complete. I just ordered some connectors, last item. I've been reading a lot and searching for answers. But I can't seem to find an answer to this. Besides checking that everything is tight, connectors are secured properly (inspect wiring), leveling the machine and checking the flatness of the MDF waste board. All the build videos I've watched just show people plugging it in and poof it works. I know life doesn't work that way. At least not for me. Are there any mechanical checks you run? Y axis alignment? What other steps do you guy do before lighting it up for the first time? Here's a tip I used - Use white out as a torque stripe. Helps keep track that you've tightened everything. Any help would be appreciated. Ed
If everything is connected properly, all you screws holding the shafts and lead screws are tight, you should be all set. The first thing you should do, but noone - to include myself - does is calibrate the machine. If you are using OpenBuilds control that should be easy. If you chose something else, here it is explained in a little over 2 minutes. No need to like, thumbs up, subscribe, share, etc... just free info. V bits and a longer measurement make it more accurate.
OpenBuilds CONTROL > Connect > Grbl Settings > Load default profile for your machine (good enough for some test, can fine tune calibration later from Wizards and Tools menu in CONTROL) Only check i'd advise - do a connection test with everything except USB plugged in (because incorrectly wired accesories prevent the board from booting. Knowing it works before connecting things like limit switches etc helps you know who broke it hehe) - double check wiring before turning on (against OpenBuilds® Documentation - not some random picture off the internet) - Double check you saw the big yellow warning sticker on top of the PSU and followed the text written on it - For a first test, USB, Power, Motors is all you really need connected
There’s a yellow warning sticker!? Thanks for the info. The calibration video is pretty handy. I’m still waiting on some connectors from the store and larger couplings for the high torque motors. The wife wants to know when I’ll get it off the kitchen table. I’m using the black box and have down loaded the open-builds control software. Thanks I appreciate the help. Hope you and your families are doing well.
When have you ever known a woman that knows what she wants? At least she’s stopped yelling at me about how much toilet paper I’m using.
