Good evening! I've just put together my Black Box, changing from a xPRO V4. - Wired the motors according to the setup instructions: * A+ = Red * A- = Blue * B+ = Green * B- = Yellow - Downloaded OB Control and the correct drivers - Powered up the BB and chose the MiniMill profile predefined in OB Control - Established connection between the computer and BB - Made sure $4=1 - Tried to move the different axis = motors stalling/ vibrating - Looked at the Nema 23 HT steppers in the online store - According to the online tech sheet, the colors are not as in the BB instructions: * A+ = Green * A- = Yellow * B+ = Red * B- = Blue - Rewired accoring to the new information - No luck, same issue - Feels like I have tried most combinations, still the same issue - Tried to lower/ rise voltage pr axis, but no luck in getting movement No error messages in OB Control, nor any red lights on the BB itself. There's communication between the computer and the BB. Any tips are highly appreciated. It might be that I've missed one color combiantion. Everyhing worked with the xPRO, so it's very unlikely there are any faulty steppers.
Certainly sounds like you have the wrong pairs. Here's a great writeup on how to check them: C-Beam Machine XLarge Alternatively, if you have a multimeter, the pairs will have continuity between them.
Thank you!! Your advice worked. I'm just going to copy what Metalguru wrote in the post you linked: Check your motor wiring. I seem to remember that the High Torque motors use a different color code than the standard motors? Never go by wire color, always check. First time I wired up unfamiliar motors I blew 4 stepper drivers. Same color wires, different internal connections. Ouch! To check, rotate the motor by hand to get a feel for how hard it is to turn, May have to loosen the set screw on the lead screw. Now short any two wires together and try rotating the motor again. If the motor is much harder to turn, that means that the two shorted wires are the same coil. By elimination, the other two are the opposite coil. If not, try another pair of wires. One coil goes to A+, A- the other coil goes to B+, B-. Not sure how the black box is laid out, but the two A coil leads are next to each other on one side, the B coil wires are the other side. Don't worry about the + and -, the only thing that will change if you reverse them is the direction of rotation. You can fix that in the GRBL configuration. Wire all motors the exact same way. As it turns out, B/Y and R/G are the correct pairs.
The documentation should be valid for motors as sold these days, yes. But the older revision of the motors had a different code, so sometimes these still crop through
Mine were bought a couple of years back I guess. Not sure if it matters in practical life, but according to the tech sheet, the current motors have a different wiring than the BB documentation, ref my first post.
