HI I have had some issues recently with Y axis drift and since I've explored all other options I wanted to update the blackbox firmware. Following the instructions the first problem I found was my blackbox does NOT have a mode button.. only a reset button, so I can't get it into flash mode that way. Then I tried the second option to change the jumper on autorst.. Unfortunately the jumper in my box does not have two positions (run/flash) it only has two pins. I tried power down/pull jumper/power up and pressed reset but openbuilds control software does not show any activity in the serial window when I try to run "flash". Looks like I'm not getting into flash mode. Oh I have powered the box/computer down and restarted but every time when I reopen openbuilds control I do not see a blank screen. Can someone tell me how I'm supposed to update my firmware on this controller ? I downloaded the most recent build of openbuilds control. I can connect to the blackbox . The only pertinent info I see is: VER:1.1g.20181112:CUSTOM OPT:V,15,128 Kind of frustrating when all the documentation just produces dead ends like this. Would appreciate some help. Thanks
NB PLEASE DO NOT FLASH firmware to address a mechanical issue. It is definitely NOT a firmware issue, and random actions such as the ones you mention above can cause damage and void your warranty. You mention that your "Blackbox does not have a mode button" - note the flashing instructions that mentions the Mode Buttons is for the INTERFACE, not the BLACKBOX (Different product), you also mention RUN/FLASH, which, again, is on the Interface documentation (Different product). BlackBox documentation is on docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox, not docs.openbuilds.com/interface. But again, very important, read below, this is NOT a firmware issue. Drifing in an axis far more likely: 1) A loose setscrew on a shaft coupler causing slippage 2) A wiring issue (Intermittent contact on motor wiring - check all terminals and make sure wire is properly inserted into wire cage inside terminal) 3) Incorrect Max Rate or Acceleration settings causing stalling (Grbl Settings tab in CONTROL, read the Grbl Wiki at github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki)
Thanks.. I did tighten setscrews on the coupling for the y axis lead screw, problem seems to be resolved.
