Received the BlackBox already assembled. Installation was easy with the included cable connectors. So far so good. Installed the latest OpenBuilds Control v1.0.284 software on my W10 machine. Turned on the power to the Blackbox for the first time and noticed that the power led illuminated but the built in fan didn't move. Maybe it doesn't start till in senses the need for it?. Gave a couple finger taps to the top cover and then the fan started turning. Hmmm that doesn't seem right! Now the fan turns full tilt like it is expecting some immediate heavy current draw! Is this normal? Sounds like the fan blades are slightly scraping the top cover. Well that should be easy to fix. I'll just loosen the cover and shim the fan maybe. To summarize my questions then, when you turn on the BlackBox, is the fan supposed to immediately turn on and is it supposed to fun at maximum speed? Next, the USB cable is plugged in from the BlackBox and in to one of the USB ports on the computer. But the OpenBuilds Control software just sits there with "Waiting for USB" error and clicking on the CONNECT button does nothing. I tried different USB ports on the computer. Tried a different USB cable, Restarted both the BlackBox and Computer, tried different startup sequences OpenBuild control first then turn on BlackBox and vise versa. Nothing. So maybe I got a dead BlackBox or am I missing something here? Opening the Serial Console reveals nothing. Any ideas?
For the connection issue: Did you install the device drivers? docs:blackbox:install-drivers [OpenBuilds Documentation]
BlackBox is a go! When I first plugged the BlackBox usb cable in to the computer, I got a notification that is was updating what I thought was the latest driver. I opened Windows Device Manager and under USB "other" there was a warning exclamation about no driver installed. Yes, so after downloading the zip file and installing, The Black Box now connects. Thank you Shawn. Peter I tried loosening the cover screws as well as the fan mounting screws but it did not help. I'm just going to find some thin washers and place them under the fan mount. I think that will take care of it. Thanks for the suggestion. So far I learned that you don't need to power on the blackbox for Open Control to connect via usb. I'm just getting in to it, but it looks like you can load your g code, edit it, and get ready to run your job before even turning the blackbox power switch on. I like that.
