Recently purchased a blackbox assuming it was more or less plug n play, even tho I have a custom machine figured it would at least drive one motor.

The issue is when I jog an axis its unsure which direction the motor wants to turn, it's making aweful noises and jerks one way for a few mm then the next when you press the same button, it's happening on all axis.

Have tried all pre defined settings for each OB machine, mine is more like the sphinx also custom and each has the same result, it's as tho it's wired wrong but I've followed the color code the whole way from motor to the blackbox, am running 24v from external PSU unsure how to test.

    Any help?

Your motor isnt wired correctly. Check this link for an explanation on how to ID your motor wire pairs and how to fix directional issues:

Thanks for the reply, will look into that when I get a chance........ odd how the wires are colour coded yet not representative of the actual wiring.

Did the motors come from the openbuildspartstore?
There may be old stock with a different color code from a couple years back that may still come into rotation sometimes, so the colors on docs.openbuilds.com should apply to all motors shipped directly from Openbuildspartstore.com in the last few months, some of our diustributors may still have older stock . That said, always better to check coil windings with a multimeter to be sure.
If you have the order correct, your symptoms also apply to wiring where say only 3 of the 4 wires are making good contact, one loose/intermittent wire also makes the motor shake back and forth

Motors are all matched, I bought them from the OB retailer here in Australia makerstore.com.au so am to assume the colors out of the motor are wired correctly - they did come with plugs already wired up 20191126_174738.jpg 20191126_174718.jpg 20191126_174708.jpg

Doh, found the issue once I posted that image, the OB wiring diagram for the blackbox says RBGY when thats not the pairs from the motors its RGYB.

Thanks for the tip re motor pairs that was the issue just at the wrong end

They are not an official reseller as far as I know (which might means their products are not the same, thats their own line of steppers, probably different spec, manufacturer and also different wiring, which causes differences like these)
