Is there a way to activate the coolant port on a blackbox without Turing the tool head on? I am trying to activate a linear solenoid with the coolant port and want to be able to activate it without having the tool head port on. Any thoughts?

I understand they are separate commands. For some reason the coolant command (M8) does nothing unless the toolhead in activated.

Standard way it would. How have you got things wired and connected

linear solenoid connected to the coolant
    jumper between m3/m5
    jumper between m8/m9
solenoid valve wired to a ACDC control relay

When we type in command to turn on the tool head the coolant automatically turns on also. Its as if the two commands are linked

Why? See docs:blackbox:jumper-relay [OpenBuilds Documentation] for documentation on the Jumpers that control the RELAY.

Remove the jumpers, they are for Plasma (m3) or custom solutions (m8) - the JUST deal with onboard Relay.
You definately can't jumper both, we only provide one jumper... for a reason

Solenoid valves are to be wired directly to the Coolant output (not the onboard relay) as shown here: docs:blackbox:connect-coolant [OpenBuilds Documentation]

Thanks for you help, but I am still having issues (please be patient I am not the best with this stuff :))
I have a linear solenoid wired directly to the coolant port. I then have the tool port connected to a IoT Relay using the ground and PWM nodes.

Here is the IOT relay I am referring to:
Iot Relay - Enclosed High-power Power Relay for Arduino, Ras

With no jumpers connected I can turn the relay on and off but not the coolant port (solenoid)
with a jumper on the M3/M5 I can turn the relay on and off but not the coolant port (solenoid)
with a jumper on the M8/M9 I can turn the relay on and off but not the coolant port (solenoid)
Now, while you stated that only one jumper should be used at a time, when I put a jumper on both the M3/M5 and M8/M9 the relay and coolant port will both turn on when I turn the tool port on. If I turn the coolant off the coolant port (solenoid) still is activated.

The only way I can get the coolant port to function is when both jumpers are installed, however it cannot be activated independently of the tooling port.

    Hopefully this is clear.
    Thanks!

From the symptoms, and the history above, I'm afraid its bad news.

Shorting the two outputs together very likely permanently damaged the coolant output pin on the microcontroller. One should never short circuit two outputs together. Thus only one jumper is provided, and clearly documented.

You'll need to buy a replacement Brains board from http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home - they will be able to help with the Brains Board only (cheaper than complete BlackBox)

Unfortunately the damage is already done.

Refer the documentation, and discuss nonstandard plans with us prior to hookups to prevent damage in future.

Ok, thanks for all your help.
I do find it strange that the coolant port was not working before I put any jumpers in, hence why I tried the jumper.

When you get the new one in, get in touch prior to hooking it up, with support again, so they can walk you through testing the ports with a multimeter (They are factory QA checked too) and also the items you plan to connect in a safe way that doesn't cause damage. Testing by connecting the items in question may lead to a repeat of earlier damage, so please work with the Store support to get to the bottom of it.

Possibly the initial issue may have been: something was just hooked up wrong, or a unnoticed mistake like forgetting to turn on the 24v power (the Coolant port outputs 24v not 5v), or incorrect gcode. Which led to a faulty assumption that it was 'not working', and thus in turn led to the double-jumper mistake.

But it could also be that the item/wiring connected to the Coolant port caused some damage. so it would be wise to commission it carefully. The store's support team will be happy to help you through that

Sounds good. New BlackBox is on the way and support was kind enough to give a discount. Thanks again
