I have an existing CNC router that uses 8-wire Nema 23 stepper motors. The per phase stepper data shows 4.2A, 0.7 Ohms, 3.2 mH when wired in parallel and 2.12A, 2.8 Ohms, 12.8mH when wired in series. The Blackbox X32 states that the drivers can handle 4A. Would I be forced to wire the motors in series?

They will have very high inductance in series - will be incredibly slow.
Would say try parallel, and if they are too weak, swop them for motors with better electrical specs, like ours

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll wire them in parallel and see how it goes.

The motor rating is a maximum - the Black box can supply up to 4A; the motor could accept up to 4.2A, so no problem from that perspective.
