    Hi there,

Was hoping someone might be kind enough to have a look at these 2 short videos and see if the sound is unusually loud to you please?

I'm sure we've essentially made a speaker with the wooden surround but, despite that, anything worrying there?
    Wrong steps configured?

    Many thanks

    Andy

They sound fine when they are moving, but what's going on when they reach the end of the axis? I see from your grbl settings that you have enabled homing, what happens when you do a homing cycle. Have you checked that the endstop switches work correctly?
    Alex.

    Hey Alex,

Thanks for coming back to me, that's reassuring. They're a bit louder than they seem in the video.

One of the videos has homing in the name. It seems to be that they're hitting the end stop at speed, then backing off/ going again with a finer travel to activate the endstop again (or back off from it, not quite sure now).

Presumed that's how the machine was setup (correctly?) - though appreciate it's not how a normal end stop would work on, for example, a 3d printer. Maybe someone with a Sparks pro board may know.

I only get to see one of the videos. Your description of the homing sequence sounds correct, but what I saw was it hitting the endstop and apparently trying to continue. If I remember correctly you have the homing pull - off distance ($27) set to 1mm. Try increasing that to (say) 5mm - $27 = 5.

My apologies, not quite sure what I did there. Here's the other video

You're quite right on that setting (mine are below) I'll make that change, thank you

Sorry Alex, just rewatched that video. About 8/9 seconds in you can see it's hitting the endstop. Focussing on the end stop metal bar that activates the switch it looks to me like it's hitting it, then backing off (I guess 1mm) and them slowly reactivating it again at a lower speed.

Just trying to understand what going back and extra 4mm gives me please?

Set that to 100mm/min, will help with the clicky noise on rehoming (second hit)

Thanks Peter, I shall read through all those.

Just to confirm, the noise of 'normal' movement doesn't sound bad to you either?

It looked to me as though it wasn't pulling off far enough to release the switch.
    Alex.

    Sounds normal, no other symptoms to report? Stepper issues far quicker show up as missed steps than noise (;

Thanks both that's a great help and my mind is more at ease now.

The other sympton is in this thread but I'm still to deal with that one properly.

Turns out the board and power supply are attached to the back of the x axis gantry, and so covered in chippings, so I'm looking to remove them from there and build a seperate box for them with some cooling. Just gathering information so I can deal with all/ any problems in one hit.

Help with C-beam losing position (missing steps?)
