Hello I am in the process of extending my CNC router. For the Y and Z axis I am using my existing gantry which has 8mm dia (2mm pitch) lead screws. For the X axis I have removed the existing 8mm dia (2mm pitch) leadscrew and replaced it with a16mm leadscrew (5mm pitch) When I try to calibrate the X axis Mach3 comes up with a warning :One or more axis are tuned too fast for current kernel speed of 25000 Can I simply increase the kernel speed to 35000 and it will be ok or are there any other consequences like will be Y and Z axis still work with this new setting. I am reluctant to just try it out without some expert input. I am using Nema 24 motors on each axis (60mm square body 8mm dia shaft). My computer is running Windows XP 2002 Service Pack3 and Pentium 3.00GHz Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
backup all your settings then try it and see. (-: or you can reduce the max speed of that axis, which will reduce the kernel speed requirement my guess is that the Pentium is a bit old for this task and a new computer with real multicore capability is what you will need to cater for the increased kernel speed. I don't know if Mach3 is multithreaded, but even if it is not, if it can hog a core and Windows can have all the other cores you are much better off than when 1 pentium core is trying to do all of it.
