Hello all. Just got a new xyz probe and thought this morning I would throw it in real quick. That is not the case, it is definitely NOT plug n play. I have a 1015 machine w/ nema 23 steppers running a black box 32 controller on openbuilds software. I was centering the bit over the hole as directed, confirming location and hitting probe. It would move to center of the plate and throw me a code 9. I found a post for same concern from last Nov, and changing some of the grbl settings helped it move but still not working correctly. It now goes to the outside of the plate, moves outward both directions (x,y), then goes to center and says its done. The probe itself shows "off" in the inputs section of the troubleshooting page and shows "triggered" when I touch the plate with the clip, so I think it's hooked up correctly. I have no idea what to think and as usual, my patience is wearing thin. There is no help in the documentation, and no videos how to get probe to work on either the probe or the software pages.
Looks like you skipped step 7.1 (and a read through section 7.2) when you set up the BlackBox. Docs is important: docs:blackbox-x32:firmware [OpenBuilds Documentation] - when followed, the probe would have been plug and play (; Which was followed up with a firmware update on Dec 7th 2022 already, over a year ago. Please keep firmware up to date
I just did this per instructions and it completely changed all my grbl settings. my machine wouldnt move at all. After I restored my settings from the backup, now it moves but all my settings are still different and my machine is not moving as it was. now, I tell it to move 100 mm's, and it barely moves and in the wrong direction. Oh, and I used the 2/3 axis cnc, dual Y but the "with xyz homing" is not listed as an option Update: I was able to get my machine working normally again but now I'm back to square 1 on the probe
Next time don't use the "and erase settings" option on the flash tool, in the dropdown. Now too late. Restore your last good backup. If you didn't take a backup when it was working you'll need to redo settings
I was able to get my back up to work but when loading it gave me an error 52 & 53, what ever those are. machine is working again and I verified calibration but now the probe is doing exactly what it was before
I thought this would help me get my work done quicker but I don't have time for this, I have Christmas orders I need to get finished. This is obviously not as easy as the video made it look
OK, well next time you want to work on it and feel a little more positive, include the FULL error, Error 9 is usually a symptom of an earlier alarm, so without the full error we'll have to guess. Good luck, hope you get some projects done, some rest in, and next time you pop in we'll get you sorted happily It really is plug and play - "unless" - the unless cause would be revealed if you post the full info, but usually outdated firmware, outdated software, or things like a badly wired machine (3rd party spindle by any chance? AC EARTH to DC GND short? - we'll see when you post the full details) If the machine is a-ok 100% as it should be, it really is plug in probe > run the wizard > follow onscreen instructions. The errors point at something wrong, so you'll need the right mindset to help us help you trace the cause. The more details you include the better we can help. Screenshots of the error, log of Grbl startup on connection, grbl Settings backup. Pictures of wiring for review... The more the better
Ya, sorry. Just really busy right now and thought it would be something simple. Thanks for trying to help!
