Most of the designs I have seen are table mounted (as is my first build) which has given me two problems: debris getting in the slides and destruction of the system due to flooding from Katrina (my shop is over a boat house near Mobile Bay). So I am thinking about a new build mounted on the ceiling which would keep the mechanism above the flood plane and potentially keep routed material out of the slides. I want to build a 4' x 8' working surface and am concerned about belt stretch over such a distance so am considering a rack and pinion approach. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Sounds like a most interesting idea. Do you envisage the whole machine being upside down or just overhead mechanics with an under mounted table ?? Tweakie.
