Chinese Spindle Problem

    I bought this spindle from Amazon "CNC Spindle 500W Air Cooled 0.5kw Milling Motor and Spindle Speed Power Converter and 52mm Clamp and 13pcs ER11 Collet for DIY Engraving" and ever since I set it up to the independently from the CNC mill ,the spindle with power supply work on there own with me controlling the RPM of the spindle , I get an Alarm :1 " Hard limit triggered.Machine position is likely lost due to sudden and immediate halt.Re-Homing is highly recommended.[ undefined] .When the spindle is running at very low RPM its fine but as soon as I increase the RPM to 600 RPM's I get the Alarm and it stays even if I try to clear the Alarm and I have no idea as to why this is happening, any feed back would be appreciated .

    I would suspect EMI, keep your spindle leads well away from your low voltage wiring, especially if you are using simple normally open microswitches. If re-routing cables isn't the solution try these;

    Xtension Limit Switch Kit

    They have electrical noise filtering built in.

    Yes I agree Alex it seems to be a problem with EMI when I move the wire for the end stops away from the spindle and spindle power supply it helps but not 100% I'm going to try and change power cables to aluminum braided insulation and enclose the power supply with aluminum metal case and see if that does it for me .

    EMI can be maddening to track down. Moving your spindle wiring away from other wires will help. Switching to NC limit switches can help a lot. Filtering will help too. Replacing your limit switch wiring with shielded cable will help.

    By the way, I know others don't agree with the switching from NO to NC switches but it's a lot harder to glitch a closed switch open than it is to glitch an opened one closed.

    Yes I agree , well I'm going to try and wrap some aluminum foil around the spindle wires and encase the power supply into an aluminum box if that works then I might change the switches to NC and also wrap them with foil ,Happy New Year Phill to you and yours I wonder if others have the same problem with the Chinese product and who the manufacture is I think its bang good or good bang or something not 100% sure

    I gave up on using limit switches due to random failures with my first build which included basic limit switches and the TinyG controller and VFD installed in the same re-purposed PC case (it seemed like a good idea at the time). Switched over to Black Box control, filtered switches, tossed the PC case, grounded the spindle wire shielding, and installed the VFD in a separate metal enclosure. I can't tell you which change made the most difference since I did them all at once but my random limit switch errors are gone.

    Just wrapping foil around your limit switch wiring won't solve anything unless it's grounded (note controller ground NOT mains earth) - two conductors close together = capacitor = problem unless one side of capacitor connected to ground in which case any rapidly changing voltage (EMI) is shunted to ground.

    Tried the aluminum foil and it worked , not 100% but now I know that im in the right direction now adding a cap to ground should make my life a little better

    I'm having the same problem it just happens out of the blue. What did u do to fix it. ?

    What I did was move the spindle and power supply to the other side of the frame away from the control circuit then I added aluminum tape along the wire from the power supply to the spindle and then I added Ferrite cores to eliminate and more chances of EMF so far it works great even at full spindle speed , I let the spindle run for a bit to see if there would be any EMI buildup and so far so good

    I'm using shielded wire and it goes up and over the drag chain 5 to 6 inches . Power and water are other side of bench. Where did u put the aluminum tape? Pic please. That's why I spent 40 bucks for a cable not to deal with this Ferritin cores to the switches?

    I put the aluminum tape around the wire that goes from the spindle to the power supply I also used insulated mesh cable and it didn't do much that's why I used the tape

    Yup I used Shielded mesh and it worked a little but what helped most was wrapping with aluminum tape and the ferrite cores

    Hi Roger. I am thinking of buying that 500w Chinese spindle/controllerkit from Amazon.
    Are you happy with it? Is it noisy/vibrates? Has it enough power ( I will be cutting soft woods)?
    Did it all work when u got it?
