Hey guys! so i am planning on making a pair of glasses in wood. I was thinking of using thin layers of veneer to construct the frame. Glue it together and bend it slightly. My first try went horribly wrong. I used a very thin drill for my OX and put the veneer peace under preassure but it broke anyway. What are you guys thoughts on this? has anyone tried cutting in veneer? What RPM on the machine would you recommend? I have uploaded a picture of veneer so you can see the thickness. Thanks, Mika
One way I have seen to successfully cut really thin material is to sandwich it between two thicker pieces. You may want to try cutting it in multiple layers, .25mm at a time, for instance. I have had success cutting delicate materials that way. Best way to do it is using a laser, but I understand that you have to use what you have.
I would suggest just trying it again with a real milling bit. Drill bits are not designed to cut sideways, milling bits are. A bit with a downward compression spiral may also be helpful.
