@Peter Van Der Walt @Giarc @Gary Caruso @Alex Chambers Would it be possible for any of you guys to share the excel or whichever worksheet you use to get your cnc carvings? I'm looking for some reliable and experimented source because as you know I'm pretty newbie. Somewhere to see the different mm/min speed, rpm, depth of cuts, materials...
Thanks Peter. Already checked that long ago... That sheet is a suggestion but does not consider so many things. I thought you guys would have something a little more elaborated of your own. Anyway I'm sharing this beautiful excels also from Carbide3D.
To be honest, it's really not that much of a science. You can hear the bogging down, chatter, etc better than any recipe can Not only between different sheets of the same material, but also sometimes different spots on the same material. Feedrate Override sliders are your friend. Along with your own notepad near the machine, jot down what worked for you, your supply of stock, and your endmills. Too many variables
I pretty much cut all woods at 2500 mm /min, doc is 1/2 the cutter diameter. Same with HDPE plastic. I do not cut much acrylic. For aluminum, I had to experiment. It depends on the cutter, the amount of flutes, etc... I usually cut aluminum at setting 3-4 on the Makita. I do as Peter said and listen to the cutter and watch it cut. I adjust the spindle speed by hand as needed. For me the magic speed of cutting is 900mm/min and plunging at about 250mm/min. The depth of cut depends on the cutter. Each is different depending on where they were sourced and the quality.
The chart in the resources section is a really good place to start. That is what I did. Then I dialed in my machine from there. My machine is a one of a kind custom build. Therefore, it will cut different than yours.
