Hi I am trying to convert a knackered Lasersaur to a Blackbox controller. I've got movement pretty much sorted, but I need to connect up the laser power supply. The PSU has terminals for a mains power supply and 5 other terminals marked 5v, IN, G, WP and TL. Can anyone suggest what I do with these. Ideally I would like the laser to fire only when the chiller is on and the door is closed. I have two, two core wires coming from a door interlock and the chiller. Thanks for any assistance Aaron
Gnd on BlackBox Toolhead, to G Pwm on BlackBox Toolhead to TH Wire IN to 5V or via a Potentiometer for override control WP= water protection = wire flow sensor or chiller so it Grounds when liquid cooling is OK
Thanks for getting back to me, but I'm still not sure what to do with all the wires. Could you take a look at the diagram I have drawn and attached and run through connecting it wire by wire, please? Thanks again.
Is there any chance somebody could take a look at the diagram in the last post and tell me how to connect up the power supply and the chiller? Thanks very much
Chiller wires to Laser PSU. Google "laser psu WP wiring" 0-10v is not 5v. It is 0-10v as labelled. See docs:blackbox:connect-vfd [OpenBuilds Documentation] You said And reference
I am but a simple bloke, but please can you let me know if the wiring in the attached diagram is correct. a straight yes/no will do. Thanks Aaron
Looks better. Just check if your chiller's pinout is sensitive to which wire is GND and which is the signal, and then don't reverse them by accident. But I think you had that figured out for the Lasersaur too?
Hi Peter I am finally making progress. Thanks for all your help. There is one more issue I would like to solve. I want to be able to run the boundaries of a laser job with the machine door open so I can position the work piece accurately, obviously without the laser firing. Is there any way to connect the laser PSU so I I can run the steppers with the door open? Thanks again Aaron
As a safety measure movement is also halted by the door input. One option may be a "door override" switch, wire it so it disconnects the switch when you hold down a button, or something like that, so Grbl thinks the door is still closed
Thanks for that. What would happen if I wired the door to the laser psu at the same connections as the chiller?
That's good But I'm not sure sure how to do this. I have tried making a circuit from the door interlock to the WP and ground on the laser PSU via the door plug on the black box, but it didn't work. Can I make a circuit from 5v on laser PSU to the door interlock back to the WP on the laser PSU. Thanks
Depends on whether the chiller has smarts or not. If it does you may need to build out a logic gate (or just run with the door closed? Since Grbl makes setting zero much easier than the old lasersaur software, close the lid, jog to origin, setzero, run a check size, if you need to tweak, jog some slight bit more, rezero, recheck with check size.)
I have attached a diagram of the method I have used to connected the Laser PSU to the BlackBox in case someone else has the same problem. Use at you own risk Thanks for every bodies help Aaron
