Trying to extrude text for the 1st time. I’ve found this video and on stage one I select 3D text. The “pop up” box shown differs from the one I have. It has a box marked ‘Height” Mine only has Filled and Extruded that I have unticked. It then has a third box. I’m not sure what goes in here. Changing it, I assume alters the height of the extrusion. After selecting the font and font size I place my text. I then select the text and select explode. I again select the text and then select Phlat Edge and Phlatten Selected Edges. Select Outside Cut Tool and place cut line on all letters. Select Inside Cut Tool and place cut lines on inner cuts. I assume that I set the material thickness to be the depth of the cut I require. Is this correct?
Here is the popup from my Make 2017 free version , since yours differs from this we need to know exactly which version of Sketchup you are using Help -> About will show something like this what does yours show? 'Extruded' must NEVER be ticked, Yes, set the material thickness to the depth of cut required. If you want to cut around the outside of the text you need to draw a boundary so that you can pocket between the letters and the boundary, like this which would leave the letters proud of the surface (oops forgot to pocket the center of the O)
