I have a 1 hp trim router that i am currently using and am just controlling it's voltage but i am converting it over to either a vfd or a dc speed controller with a 10 volt pentiometer for variable speed control. The unit is 110 VAC or works on 110VDC so what has everyone's experience shown them vfd or dc speed controller?

That sounds like it is a brushed motor. If so, it's not suitable for a VFD.
