I plan to do a lot of drilling on an upcoming project. I will be using regular common twist drills for this. What would be a good plunge rate be for drills from 1mm to 6mm? I plan to use the pecking feature of Carveco Maker
    Thanks,
    Scott

What material? What spindle? What machine? :)

Sorry Peter, obviously not enough information. Machine is a LEAD 1515, spindle is a Makita rt0701c router, and materials are 1/2" MDF and 1/2" plywood. Scott

FWIW: I slow my spindle down to ~5000RPM for drilling or I find that the bit tends to whip in the top of the hole when doing full retract pecking. I would start about 100mm/min and see how it goes. That's pretty conservative and I'm sure you could get 150mm/min or more with the larger drills fairly safely.

Might be a bit fast for drilling. Why not just machine with a center cut endmill?
Or V-bit to mark center and then take it over to the drill press?

I'm afraid that router will be too fast for drilling with twist drills. As @Misterg said you need a speed of 5K rpm or slower.

i agree, bit fast for drills, I would do a spiral bore operation for the larger holes (3mm up)
for the 1 and 2mm drill 10k rpm will be ok, calculate feedrate from the rpm and flute count at 0.025mm per rev per flute

if you must use drills, then use the woodworking drills with the center point, and if you are buying drills, get stubby ones, a 6mm drill with 4.5" of stickout is a nightmare at 10k rpm.
