Hi all, first post here. Is there any reason the eccentric spacers for the Lead 1010 should not be placed on top and the bottom wheels be fixed? It is nearly impossible to get to the spacers on the bottom without either lifting or sliding the machine off the edge of the workbench. This is difficult when all the wiring is done and secured. I am having a lot of trouble getting the eccentrics adjusted correctly. Seems like adjusting one eccentric has effect on other wheels but not so much on the wheel i am adjusting. Thanks, Stan
You want the weight of the carriage bearing on the wheels with the non-eccentric spacers. With the weight on the eccentric spacers there is the potential for them slowly getting knocked out of adjustment.
So I am having problem with my y axis "sticking" and one time it completely ground to a halt on one side while the other kept going throwing my x axis all out of whack. I have gotten the x straightened back out but I can't figure out what is causing the y axis to bind up. I know my v wheels are not set perfectly but I don;t think they are causing it. I have checked the squareness of the machine corner to corner and width (distance between y rails ) at front and back and everything checks good. I did notice there is a lot of wobble in the long end of lead screw when driving x axis to the back or from the back to the front. probably at least a half inch from center of lead screw of wobble. I know the 8 mm lead screw is pretty flexible but should it wobble this much? Should I replace lead screws and the nut blocks? I really wasn't expecting these problems as assembly went great and it did fine surfacing wasteboard and a few other small practice carves where there wasn't a whole lot of movement required. Any ideas as to what my problems are? Any advice is welcomed. Stan

This can also be caused by the lead screw binding. Loosen the flex couplers to the steppers and try moving the axis by hand to see if you have any sticky points. Hand pressure should be able to overcome the resistance of the lead screw unless something is binding.
No i haven't. Will check when I get home. Don't believe this is the problem though. As I jog the X axis from front to back, at one point in the travel it sounds like there is a Stress noise ( i don't know how to explain it) coming from one of the carriages but as long as I am jogging in small increments ( 1 or 2 inches) it keeps moving. When i set it to jog most of the entire length of it will hang up. Noise isn't coming from motors either. What about the lead screw wobble? Is this normal? Had a belt driven Xcarve prior to this machine.

I had watched that video before and i understand the concept. What is weird is how one eccentric affects one or more of the other fixed wheels. I tried adjusting them again last night, turning them all back to the open position and going from there. It seemed like some of the fixed wheels would tighten up and others would not. some of them would end up tight while the wheel below it with the eccentric spacer would not be touching at all. I tried multiple times and followed the assembly video instructions. When i set them during the assembly i actually had to adjust all the eccentrics to the fully closed position to get the correct feel on the fixed wheel.
Have you got any side to side play on your V wheels. I apologise in advance for asking this question, but are you sure you assembled the V wheels correctly with a shim between them? Alex.
No side to side play and yes, the V wheels were assembled correctly. No need to apologize...all ideas are welcome. I'm struggling a bit
I’ve got my eccentrics up top and haven’t had any problems. I just check them periodically like I would if they were on the bottom. I didn’t focus too much on each wheel being exactly perfect upon initial assembly, I got it close, ran a few jobs, then adjusted again. It was far easier to dial it in after it had seen some runtime.
No one has mentioned if they have a fair amount of wobble/runout on their lead screws. I meant to take a video of mine in action...maybe I'll do that tonight. I have to think that the amount of whip I'm seeing in mine can't be good. afraid i might have screwed them up during some of my mishaps. I have ordered new lead screws and nut blocks. Lead screws should be easy enough to replace and I'm hoping I can replace nut blocks without disassembling the carriages.
Mine have a little whip in them, but nothing major. It’s definitely visible, but doesn’t affect anything that I’ve noticed.
Aloha im having an issue with the lead screw flex, as seen in the video it only happens when the Y axis is all the way to the rear, then moving forward towards the front of machine, it comes completely out of the slot for it. so far i have tried, adjusted the screw blocks both looser and tighter removed the lead screw and flipped it around changed Y motors from side to side checked bearings and lock collars, all ok and adjusted properly disconnected the flex coupling and turned the screw by hand to check for binding- none lubricated the screw- no effect also adjusted the lock collars so there is no fore/aft movement disconnected X gantry and moved Y rail by hand to check for binding- none any other suggestions? Aloha Im wondering if the lead screws are long enough on the lead 1010 to change it to the tension nut config like the lead 1515, for the Y axis? Change the end plates and add the trust bearings and tension nuts, also i like the 4 screw mount for the steppers
