Is there such a thing as an enclosed lead screw that sits inside a slotted metal shroud? Am thinking of designing one if there is not something like that already on the market. Something that will attach around a 20x20 V-Slot profile and enclose the lead screw completely, then a slot all the way up one side to attach to a moving piece.
This was just something I quickly knocked up to display what I am thinking of. Hope it makes some sense. just a very rough idea, nothing lining up like it should, just hashing out the idea with a bearing holder plate each end, One side will be connected to a stepper motor with a reduction gear so the stepper motor is attached to the side The block you can see to travel up and down, and shaped to slide up and down the face of the 2020 and an arm protruding through the steel cover slot that is perpendicular to the rod and 2020
Fairly simple endeavor. Split a length of aluminum tube lengthwise and bolt the pieces to the sides of the 20x20. If you fit your threaded block to the inside walls of the tube you really don't need to key it into v-slot. The tube faces will keep it square.
An alternative, though not as enclosed would be to use channel. It wouldn't require you to split the tube. If done right, the full tube would be cleaner. This is what you are trying to make, correct?
Yes similar. My goal is to try make this for 2020 profile for small cnc. C beam Will be massive for a small cnc/ printer.
It would be a good idea to look at your requirements before actually designing. How fast do you need it? How much force (not torque) does it have to be able to apply? I say this because it may be better to just ditch the extrusion entirely and just make an inline assembly with square tubing.
