Hi guys - I just bought a secondhand CNC machine from an older gentleman in Reno who bought a kit on Ebay, assembled the machine, got it up and running, but eventually realized he didn't want to invest the time to learn CAD to make what he wanted to make.

The machine is roughly like this one:
1000*1000mm 3 Axis CNC Router Machine Complete Kit 2.2KW CNC Engraver | eBay
(specs lower down in that listing).

To make it work for me, I need to raise the Z axis and gain more throat so I can 3D engrave wood that's up to 7" thick.

In looking at the parts on OpenBuilds.com that I will need to make this upgrade, I think I have a complete list but wanted to ask the experts if I am missing anything.

    • Longer 8mm Acme Screw (540mm)
    • Longer C-Beam (500mm)
    • Nut Block x 2
    • Anti-Backlash Nut Block
I know I will need to tap the holes in the C-Beam for the screws/motor mount plates I have. I also know I may need to trim the Acme Screw. And lastly I will have to design and laser cut riser plates to elevate the entire X beam ("gantry") up higher where it attaches to the Y (And slaved A) axes at the side of the table.

I should be able to re-use everything else right? The motors are specc'ed as NEMA 23.

    Here are some pics.
