Had an idea for a double router mount, specifically to use on my C-Beam Machine Too build. The machine uses the double wide C-Beam gantry plate. I recently got a Dewalt DWP611 router, and I thought "Surely there must be something I can do with all that extra barrel length?" I have shown a rendering below: EDIT - I just changed some of the colors so things are easier to see. Black on black is difficult to see details. Essentially, I just added a second OB store router mount onto the double wide gantry plate. I used the existing threaded holes for the angle bracket screws. For the time being, the extra mount is only mounted by the angle brackets on top. The holes on the double wide plate on the back line up with the holes in the back of the router mounts, so it should be possible to bolt both router mounts to the plate from the back side. Note that these holes are threaded, so they would have to have the threads drilled out. However, there is not enough clearance for the bolt heads between the back of the plate and the c-beam. Adding a couple of shims on the wheels and the nut block to space the plate out a couple of mm would fix this, however. I plan to do this next time I have to take the machine apart for some reason. I am exclusively using the Dewalt routers from now on, because they have a lot of better features than the Bosch, including a much better chuck, better speed control, built in lights, etc. The spacing on this mount still leaves lots of barrel adjustment. This should also work with the Makita router, but I am not sure of it's diameter. People who use it use the OB mount, so it should fit. Hi, I just built my first OX router and have selected the same router. When mounting it I thought the same thing, that there is enough room to shore it up by adding a second mount. Now that I saw how you did it I will do the same. Thanks for posting this tip, Jen

Been getting ready to do a overhaul on my C-beam plate maker and put it back into full time use. I will have to give the double mount a try. Instead of spacing out the plate further from the gantry to make room for the bolt heads. Pick up a counterbore bit. They can be used in a hand drill or drill press. I grabbed one when I was building Sphinx and it has been a very useful tool on multiple projects.. I have used it a lot more then I thought. You can pick them up online for cheap and they fit the Openbuilds m5 bolt heads perfectly providing a 10mm flat faced counter bore for the bolt head to reside.. Here is a single unit ( for M5's ) Link They also have sets available if you want to do m3 m4 ect. double check what size of pilot they need. 5.2 or 5.5mm are common. The above linked one needs a 5.5mm This one could be used Link. I prefer the style that requires a 5.2mm pilot hole instead of 5.5mm as I usually drill out my M5 bolt holes to 5.2mm already saves me from redrilling.. However both work great !
That's a cool solution. I've always wanted to be able to put in my own counter-bores, I didn't know a tool was available for this. This will become a commonly used item around my shop as well. Thanks, man!
