Hello all, I did an image trace from illustrator and when i took that SVG and placed it into F360. When i get to the point of selecting my curves for the machine to follow, i am forced to select only small segments vs. selecting the whole line, causing my machine to plunge, cut for a short distance, retract, and then plunge once again when it could just be one line. Can anyone help out here? I've looked online and can't seem to find a setting that will make a line truly "one" line vs. one made up of many segments. I've attached a photo of one example. Thanks!!
Yeah, Fusion and svg suck Depending on the tool path you are trying to apply, there should be an option for chain select. Do you have it turned on? In sketch view when you box select two of the segment ends, look in the lower right to see how many points are selected. It could be that the lines aren't connected but the points are so close to each other that it looks like a single line. You might also be able to adjust the tool down settings to fix it. Hard to say without seeing the files. Post your fusion an ai files so we can look at it.
This is what I love about Estlcam for a CAM solution. It has never had a problem with any .svg or .dxf I have thrown at it. That being said, import the .svg, then save the whole thing as a .dxf. This is what I do when engraving on parts. I do the CAM work from the .dxf.
One I export it as a dxf what then? I normally just go straight from the design environment to the fusion manufacturing environment to make my gcode
I was going to say re-import it as a .dxf, but apparently Fusion 36 likes to make this stuff difficult. I just tried it and it did not seem to help. I then saved a .svg file as a .dxf in Inkscape and imported that and it too failed miserably. Now I remember why I switched to Estlcam. I do not even design in 3D anymore. I just export everything in Estlcam and tell it how deep to cut. It is nice, because I can cut the same part out of multiple thicknesses of material with out having to do a new drawing.
You have open paths all over the place. Correct this in Illustrator and you won't have any problems importing this as an SVG in Fusion. Start by getting rid of all the excess anchor points in Illustrator. Select everything then go to Object > Path > Simplify. Then zoom in and start connecting all your open lines. Illustrator and Fusion are a powerful combination but have a steep learning curve.
Any tips on removing the duplicate lines when you image trace? I’ve seen a lot where I do an image trace and when I insert the SVG in F360 I have two serve off lines that you have to zoom in super close to see.
