Many thanks @sharmstr I was indeed deluded about the meaning of absolute co-ordinates - I suspect the common error of confusing WCS and machine co-ordinates - because so far I have almost always set WCS zero at machine zero.
    Alex

Evening All.... sad news.. whilst the tool path seems correct on the X and Y, the Z axis is not moving. When the job starts the Z axis stays int eh home position... has anyone seen such behaviour before?

B.T.W the fusion post processor v1.0.1 has a true arc section, I recalled this on an earlier post and thought this may be related...

Is the Z axis still alive (can you jog it?)

Post your G code and your Fusion file - its a bit late and I have just finished the bottle of single malt my sons bought me for Christmas (mean sods bought one bottle between them) but I'll have a look tomorrow.

PS if you are lucky @sharmstr (being 7ish hours behind us) may have solved your problem before I wake up (midday usually)

I'll have a look at that tomorrow. I have a Fusion account and I'll post details tomorrow also - if I can't solve your problem then I might learn something from your approach to Fusion 360.

I will be interested to see where you set your stock origin - your Z starts rather high and goes down to -6.

I seem to recall a lower speed limit in GRBL and I see that your plunge feedrate is only 30mm/minute which is very slow... ah yes, google says...
    0.9i - Min feedrate appears to be around 40-45mm/min · Issue #742 · grbl/grbl
says 40 to 45mm/min and yours is set even lower.

Given that your other rates are much faster, maybe what you meant was 300mm/min plunge rate?

Hi @Colin Hart, I ran your G code on Mach 4 simulator and it appeared to behave as expected - Mach 4 didn't handle arcs very neatly and eventually crashed (I think because the file was too big for the demo version I have). I will try later to run it on my machine to mill some thin air. What info do you need about my Autodesk account in order to share the file with me? I have been sharing Fusion files by exporting an archive (*.f3d) file.
    Alex.
PS; how did you know Ooznest had updated the Fusion 360 post processor - does one have to check regularly to see if anything has been updated?

Hi @Colin Hart, check your retract heights - are you hitting the Z axis limit switch as your machine moves into position? This seems to be what happened on my machine when I tried your G code - first run - no movement on Z axis. second run - lowered Z 10 mm and reset WCS zero - Z behaved as expected.

PS - your DOC seems to be 1mm. What size bit are you using - I would think you can probably manage a bit more than that per pass.

Hi @Alex Chambers. Sorry today was supposed to be an easy day, instead, I have just managed to catch up on posts....so I can share my Fusion design with you, I need your email address, then I can add your account to my project.

my bit is a 6mm flat end mill, i did think 1mm was conservative however, didn't was to overcook it, the wood is fair hard.

In fusion to the stock is set with 0 offset on the top, so it should drop to the top of the WCS.

    Hi @Colin Hart, height is definitely the problem here - according to Ooznest;

    Z Height
54mm Or 94mm Travel, 27mm Or 47mm Workable depth, with a 12mm spoilerboard. The spoilerboard supports have two height configurations, these are the maximums for each configuration.

You have a stock piece 40mm thick with a top offset of 12mm - total 52mm. Your pocket toolpath starts 10mm above the stock, so your hitting the Z axis limit switch before the machine gets to the right height to start.
I would suggest reducing the top offset, but if you can get this confirmed by someone who knows more about Fusion 360 than I do that would be a good idea. Why did you set the stock top offset to 12mm?

    Alex.
