Hi all. First off, I'd like to applaud this entire community and it's opensource builds. You've been a life-saver in recent months in working on my project. I'm trying to build a openlabtools-esque microscope, but with wireless support from raspberry pi. I want to have a fixed optical microscope up top, and a microscope stage that is able to move in the X - Y - Z planes. I like the idea of this build: http://www.openbuilds.com/builds/x-y-stage-hidden-acme-rod-example.66/ but again, I have no idea how to add vertical control. Do i try another linear screw and 3 other steel rods, all attached to the top part of the xy stage? Any other ideas? Many thanks in advance! Mike
Hi Michael. I think I understand your question. Instead of using a threaded rod on the other axis, as in the z axis, have you considered the use of belt drive, plus steppers? It would be more flexible from a build, and size, point of view, and much cheaper. Gray
