Can someone who is fluent in Fusion 360 help me out with a drawing. First of all I don't use Fusion 360, I tried learning it in the past and just never continued. I have a drawing of the side rails of my cnc but I would like it to be 2" taller than what it is right now. Can someone modify the drawing for me if I upload it?

I normally use Sketchup but by no means am a pro, plus I could never get the radiuses to look the same like in a CAD program.

    Appreciate any help.

If you upload the Fusion file make sure it's in the .f3d file format so that it can be uploaded to check it.

The radius in SketchUp looks bad depending on how far you zoom in. With small diameters I normally don't bother, only with bigger ones. I then change the circle segments to a multiple of 24, mostly 48.
There are two ways that I know of to change the segments. One is when you have the circle tool selected in the lower right of the screen you'll see the number 24. You can change it there but don't forget to hit enter after you did it. The second way to do it is by right clicking on the circle and choosing 'Entity info'. There you can change the segments.

Changing the segments is only for the visual, if you use SketchUcam, since SketchUcam will make the g-code using the radius and the circle that your machine will cut will be perfectly round and not segmented.

I don't know if this will work but the files I have are only in dxf format. I know the guy designed it in Fusion from what he showed on his videos.

Are you wanting that back as a dxf file?

    Alex,

dxf will be fine, I can pull it into Estlcam easy that way to generate the gcode.

Is the dimension labelled in the pic what you want increased by 2"?

From bottom to top. The entire plate so that it can be 2" taller so it wont hit my vice when I have it on the table.

I think the entire plate is now 201mm and i want it to be 251 which is 2" longer.

So I'm assuming the pic shows it upside down, the holes near the bottom want to stay where they are in relation to the bottom of the plate, the holes at the top (presumably include motor mount and hole for leadscrew) stay in the same relationship to the top of the plate but move 2" further away from the bottom of the plate?

    Like this?

    right dxf mod v1.png

If so I have modified both files, but I only have the personal use license and can't export dxf files - Fusion files attached so you can get someone with the full license to export the dxf's for you.

Appreciate it Alex. What formats can you export to?

Sketchup and step files might be of interest to you?

That sounds good since I don't know anyone that uses Fusion, I don't think I can login to their site anymore since everything changed.

Alex, it looks like the sketchup files are blank.

They are rather large for empty files  - I'll have a look at them later and also post some svg files which should open in estlcam.

Alex, I figured out what it was. I was able to login to my fusion trial account and exported the file to sketchup, problem is it exports to a really old version and it seems the file is messed up so it doesn't show anything. I exported to dxf without issues and the file opened in Estlcam.

    Thanks again for your help.

If steel proves too much for your machine 6082T6 aluminium would probably do the job.

I definitely want to give it a shot and hope it doesn't take six months to cut. I bought a 1/4" piece a steel plate a while ago just for this, let see what happens. I thought about aluminum in the past, but I don't know how much flex I will get out of that. Not that it matters since I am not doing any precision work. I need to start learning a CAD program, this is getting crazy.

There are a couple of post processors that claim to output dxf for certain models of laser/plasma cutters.
This may be a way to 'export' dxf (-:

Thanks @David the swarfer - I'll have a look into that, although I only use it for helping other people - don't use dxf's much myself.
    Alex.
