Hi all, I have recently assembled and wired up my new Lead CNC. Unfortunately when connecting up the stepper motors to the stepper controllers I am having some serious issues.

Whenever a motor is connected to the driver, within a few seconds i get some squealing from the motor, the stepper driver shows red led indicating an error and if i dont disconnect it promptly it shorts out the driver! I have already lost 2!
I cannot locate the problem at all! I have already attempted the following.
    • double checked every connection with a multimeter to make sure there are no shorts on the electronics or the motors side.
    • ensured I am using shielded cable - have already tried changing the cable out
    • checked the stepper has no internal short
    • checked the continuity from motor to driver ensuring no short.
    • checked wiring for a third time
    • isolated a single motor and cable and driver, and still getting the issue.
What is even worse is it seems to be at random. I had 2 axis working well while i waited for the driver that blew up the first time. Now those seem to be busted aswell.

I am very lost as to where to go from here short of ripping it all out and starting again with a different controller and drivers. Any help would be much appreciated!

Post some pictures of your setup and wiring closeups.
    Did you adjust the current?
