    Hello,
I have the parts coming to do the high Z mod but wanted some input before i get started.

I dont need the 200mm of clearance created by the Z mod, im really just after about 100mm. So im wondering if it would be beneficial to chop the 500mm gantry V slot down to 400mm so i can still use the 5 hole 90 degree joining plate to attach the X axis C-beam ? My thinking is if the Z mod gives you 200mm clearance and i chop the v slot down 100 mm ill end up with around 100mm clearance and i would have got the whole thing lower and a little lighter.

Any input would be much appreciated.

If you never think you will need it that high, I would chop it. I am currently in the process of modifying my CNC and I ordered the High Z kit as well. My plan is to have a plate that holds both cbeams at the right spacing permanently. Then I I can raise and lower the whole thing easily whenever I need to.

I have cut most plates for this High Zm mod mod I am doing. I started out with a complete custom build that was made before the OB kits came out. I am using Cbeam gantry plates and affixing my router mount plate to them. The plates you see on the end have not been cut yet so no guarantee they will work properly. Not only will these end plates keep proper spacing, but I plan to put a piece of 3mm aluminum plate across the front tying the two beams together.

Hmmm... I am not working today, maybe I should get back on this. I got distracted by making plates for the "transmission" for a powered kayak cart because I am sick of trying to drag it through a 1/4 mile of soft sand on a particular beach I like to fish.

Just got back from fishing for the past 5 days using gear made with my cnc. Good times even though the fishing was slow.
