I'm planning on building my first laser and I saw the 80w build which seemed spot on to what I wanted. However, he's got like 500mm Z travel and that just seems crazy to me. If I don't plan on doing any curved engraving, is there any reason to go more than maybe 100 or 150mm Z ?
Hey Sam, your right 500mm travel is overkill for most C02 laser applications (depending on what you are using it for). I would say 100 or 150mm is plenty of travel for the Z Axis on this application. In most cases I have seen the conversion conducted to the Acro System (which has no Z Axis, just an adjustable tool plate) and they work great!
