Hi folks, Since building my Mini Mill I have been switching the spindle on and off manually, but would like to start it when a job starts on the mill. I have a Black Box controller. The picture shows a wire link accross the 'switch' terminals, so I am guessing I will need to connect that to the Black Box. Voltage accross the switch terminals is 27V. Speed is controlled by a potentiometer so I just want the machine to switch the spindle on and off for now. I am guessing I will need to add a g code command to switch on and one to switch off....
Then I would recommend: OpenBuilds BlackBox 4X Documentation except instead of the Dewalt, you plug in the Spindle PSU instead (mains side) Safest option... (Legally we cannot advise mains wiring your own setups of course)
I would need one with UK 220 V and UK type mains plugs, unless I bought US plugs to use just with the relay...
Sorry no mention of UK and most users here are US So off the shelf options are going to be limited. There are other posts on here, use the search, where users recommended solutions (I just cant for liability reasons)
My spindle was working with the Black Box and the IOT. Now when I begin a job, the spindle starts up then shuts off. The job continues. This is driving me crazy. I've double checked my connections to the IOT - Even when I power the Black Box elsewhere this same thing happens. I can turn the tool head on and off from Open Builds Control. If its on and I begin a Homing cycle, the head shuts off as well.

Router power cable near low voltage signal cables? Router turns on, kicks EMI out into controller and it resets
The easiest way I have found is to suspend the cable from the ceiling down to the router/spindle. I have never had EMI issues with it like this, it allows me to plug it into a separate circuit, and it is a clean way to do it.
I haven't looked at it yet but yes. My router power cable is buried deep in both drag chains. I know I have the psu power, router and low power it signal cables zip tied together from the black box to the Meanwell PSU area and the IOT. So I'm almost positive this will be my issue. If it is, I'm going to run the router power cable through a braided sleeve and then ground both ends. I may add a single earth ground wire through the track to do this. When I snipped the router cable to lengthen it, I pitched the Feret ring located at the plug. Big mistake. I think I'll shield the signal cable too. May use coax wire to do that. I'd hang the wire as a last resort. Or I would simply run the router right off the main and forgo the software option.
I like to think that I was "ignorantly smart" when it came to my decision to suspend mine. I had an overhead outlet and by suspending the cable from my Makita router, it would reach all machine positions without ever being in the way and I would not have to cut it to lengthen it. I hadn't even considered the EMI issues I avoided by doing this until I saw people routinely suggesting it.
