I just purchased the Interface and connected as per the Instructions and it does not work. I have a Blackbox V 2.5. I check the voltage of the power pins on Aux 1 and there is no voltage, so the Interface is not getting power. I Have remove the chip and placed the jumper as per the instructions. So I'm not sure if it is the Interface of the BlackBox Please provide assistance so I can get this working.
But no other LEDs? Expecting the RGB LED behind the logo, Motors Enable, and there is a 5VOK LED inside
That is the only light I can see. I've included pictures of the unit power on. All I can say is that the Blackbox worked before doing the modifications on it. Is the unit ruined now? Am I going to have to buy a new one? Thanks Pat
If you only removed Q25 that wouldn't cause it. What we are seeing here is a dead 5V regulator, and that sits on the Muscle board below the board you worked on. Any past incidents with shorting V+ to GND (incorrectly wired limit switches etc)? If you take the bottom cover off, the regulator is a little 8 pin IC. See if it looks melted PS it was working until the mod because 5V from the USB was still somewhat powering the 5V rail (and not the regulator as expected) - so you wouldnt have immediately noticed the regulator not working. On a working Muscle board the 5V regulator kicks in as soon as the 24v power comes on and takes over from the USB. Replacing the Muscle board will resolve the issue, but it is important to think back on what incidents could have killed the regulator, most popular reason being a dead short on V+ to GND. If that faulty wiring is still in place, a new Muscle board will just follow the same fate http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home will be able to assist with a replacement Muscle board
Just looked at the bottom of the board and I see no burned IC's. Just wonder.ing... since I have always used the USB Port could the unit have been bad from the start and as you said ... It would not have been noticed?
That section is checked in the QA process (which why there is a 5VOK LED) but maybe during initial setup had a short of some sorts
Ok, I've posted three emails to the contact-us form in the last couple of days and have had no response.
Are there any follow ups to this? I have the same problem. Was it the Muscle board? Did your problem get fixed?
If you are unsure if you have a dead 5V regulator, check which LEDs are on on the BlackBox with, and without USB. If the RGB LED, 5VOK, Front panel led for Motors enabled etc does not light up, you have a Muscleboard with a dead 5V regulator (earlier short circuits can cause it to stop working). If the LEDs are fine without USB, check cable to Interface.
Yes, after reading the other forum posts, I'm positive I have a dead 5V regulator. I've opened a ticket with Support. Thanks.
