@OpenBuilds @Peter Van Der Walt Having this jogging issue with Interface. It doesnt move X+ or Y+ . Only when I jog X- to certain distance, it jogs X+ for that same distance. Same for Y+ movement. Z+ or Z- seems to be working fine. From a PC with Openbuilds Control, jogging is not a problem with same Grbl setting. Do you have Soft Limits enabled? Grbl won't allow you to move beyond where the soft limits are. So A) forgot to home, thus machine is unsure where the physical bounds are. Thats why jogging away from the soft limits, allows you to jog back toward them B) max travel values is incorrect for your machine - grbl uses those values, to know how far away from HOME it can move C) homing directions or axis directions incorrect
@Peter Van Der Walt I had the soft limit enabled. After running the homing sequence the X, Y jog problem is fixed. I guess I will have to do homing at the beginning of each session? I still have to fix the USB connection problem (hopefully with emery cloth/ stick) to update the latest grbl setting into Interface.
If you have Homing enabled, yes, you should always home after startup, an abort, a crash, etc so Grbl can reestablish where the physical bounds are Usb: see latest memo here: INTERFACE CNC Touch Controller - cleaning port didnt end up helping, i think we saw some observation bias in the recommendations from customers who suggested it helped them.
Another possibility: My interface jogs only a short distance when it resting on the MDF table surface, my frame is earthed and screwed down to the MDF surface, when I pick it up in my hands its fine, obviously the capacitive touch ratio or something make it do like that.
I have been too chicken to test and was unable to find a comparable thread covering an interface jogging question that has been on the back of my mind. The chicken part comes from my previous machine (a 1000x1000 Xcarve) which I broke by running a job without soft limits enabled and exceeded the travel right into the flimsy frame rail. I replaced it with a beefier CNC4Newbie NewCarve. Additionally, I went with the Openbuilds BlackBox and Interface to control it. My question is this about the Interface functionality and GRBL soft limits... With the soft limits set, if I hold down either the X or Y buttons to jog the spindle out to the farthest extent, and I don't release the button, will the spindle stop at the soft limit? Or, will it slam into the railing? Or, will it stop at the soft limit but require unlock or reset? Currently, I only send it out so far and then nudge it over by tapping the button(s).
