Good morning. Has anyone used the Jtech 24w laser to do photo engraving on wood/glass/tiles etc? Im planning on adding a laser to my 1010 machine, and wanted to to see if the community had experience or recommendations, Thanks
Update.... hopefully this will help others who may be curious as I was.... I reached out Jtech and asked them the very same question. There response was amazing, detailed, and I wanted to share this with others. There customer service was spot on in answer the question. They actually sent me a good explanation and photo examples of their various lasers (24-2.8w) " Yes, the 24W laser can engrave photos in slate and wood. I will say, the 24W is not as good at photos as the 7W or the 14W on wood. It just has a ton of power, so you really need to get it down to make it work. Here is a photo of the 24W, stucki dither mode, 100 inch/min, 17% power 24W. The 14W and the 7W are going to be similar. Here is a photo showing the 2.8W, 4.2W and the 7W. You can see the 24W is more "grainy" as the beam profile is different from the 14W and 7W. On slate, it might be better, but the 14W might still look a bit better because of the beam profile. For engraving vector art, then the 24W will just burn deeper and darker. You will not see a huge difference in the quality when doing things like logos. 2. Engraving on glass requires that you put either sharpie or paint on it and then burn over it. Again, if you are looking for fine detail, then the 14W or the 7W will be better than the 24W at this. If you are doing just vectors, then you should be fine. Here is an example of glass: Glass Etching with J Tech Laser for Sale 3. Clear acrylic will be the same as glass. You need to put a coating on it. 4. Laser cutting is a totally different beast. The 24W will perform really well in this application. You can check out the video of the 24W cutting here: The 14W cutting is here: You can see the 14W is about 2x slower at cutting than the 24W. It will all depend on what you want to do. If you want to do more cutting, then the 24W will be better. If you want to do more photo engraving, then maybe the 14W would be better. We have all three 7W, 14W, and 24W, so we use them for different applications depending on what they are. Let me know if you have additional questions. Best Regards, Jay" Very Impressed that they took the time to demonstrate the different lasers, and ultimately, I decided to go with the 14W version, as my needs were more suited for photo engraving. Hope this update helps someone as well =) Cheers! Eric
