Hello. I have a problem with plexiglass cutting. When I put a normal plexiglass into my 1515, the laser burns everything underneath it. I tried different settings and unfortunately still the same. Does the plexiglass have to be smeared with something? to have a mirror from below? Anyone can help?

Different lasers use different frequencies of light. IR/CO2 lasers uses the 10600um wavelengths and Acrylic is opaque at that wavelength. Thus the material absorbs the energy (heats up and vaporises).

A 445nm diode laser is much closer to visible spectrum, passes right through. Solid black acrylic can be cut (albeit so slow its not worth it) as the pigments absorb some energy.

445nm lasers are only really effective on organics

For cutting acrylic you need a CO2 laser.

Then of course wattages comes into play. 6w vs 40-150w for CO2.

Probably the most dangerous thing i have heard in a while! Bouncing a focussed laser beam upward!? You will be instantly blind. Read Hit in eye with 1000mw 445nm blue laser then seriously reconsider your safety stance and attitude towards the dangers of your laser module overall! Think... before you lose your eyesight.

(ps also consider that was 1w unfocused, not 6w focussed. And exposure time of what happened to him, vs what would be the case with a mirror!)

Pictures of his Retinal damage on Post #43 in the thread linked above, or click on Hit in eye with 1000mw 445nm blue laser - post #43
