Hi all, I was hoping for some assistance to first verify my idea but if anyone knows how to help create a parts list so I can order the correct items? I've asked the distributor in Australia 4 times over the course of 2 weeks and they wont get back to me. Back story - I am building a new workbench and want to incorporate a router flattening rig that I can one day build upon and use the parts I buy now for a future CNC. I bought, mistakingly, some Igus linear tracks before I discovered Openbuilds. https://www.igus.com.au/product/723?artNr=NS-01-27-UNGEBOHRT I will use these for the Y axis now before upgrading to C beam in the future. The upright brackets that slide in the Igus track are 6mm steel and were professionally manufactured for a different application but I will need to repurpose these for budgetary purposes. Again, in time these will be swapped out for C beam. Requirements: -Cope with a 3.5kg router with 88mm body running a 50mm flattening bit Sherwood Round Body Router Motor 1000W -The X axis should be able to be moved freely by pushing -The X axis needs a locking mechanism -The Z axis height should be adjustable with a jog knob or handwheel -The Z axis needs a locking mechanism when wound to the correct height - unless the lead screw won't allow any unwanted movement. Thank you in advance and I hope I have been clear in my explaination.
For the Z locking I would suggest using a 3/8", or 1/2" if you want, threaded rod with a coupling nuts and a regular nut. The coupling nut will be mounted permanent and will facilitate the up and down. The regular nut will be use to lock against the coupling nut. Very budgetary friendly and easy to do. A knob on top or a crank will be used to turn the threaded rod.
