I found out that one of the lead screws on one of the Y-AXIS were whipping on my modified LEAD CNC. How can I fix this problem? I'm not sure if I can turn the end plates around so that the bearings and collars are outside because the lead screws are not long enough. I know that some people put 12mm lead screws on their machines but they had to make custom nut blocks.
While whip is a natural part of the process it can be minimized by straightening and aligning the screws as much as possible. A general description of the process can be found here.
Well, the Lead shouldnt suffer from whip, and its only one one axis you say? Sounds less like a whipping issue and more like a bent screw (;
I think that OpenBuilds should sell longer lead screws so that the bearings and lock collars are outside the end plates.
Peter, I sent an E-Mail message to http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home asking them if I can order custom-length lead screws and they said no.
I did a quick doublecheck for you, to see why I remember they do: The DO do custom lengths, BUT the maximum length is 1040mm. You can order custom lengths, but has to be less than 1040mm. Good to know but yeah, then doesnt help you with your plan, sorry. Wallied has a interesting plan though (;
I got an E-Mail from http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home saying: Hi Jeffrey, Thank you for your feedback. I will pass it on to our Building Team. Thank you for your support! Thank You,
Have a look at my build log below and scroll down to "Lead-screw Mod and nut blocks", dunno if that helps? Workbee "style" 1010 cnc
