I am in the process of commissioning my second cnc. I added a removable rotary axis running along the x axis on the front of the machine. I have added aviation plugs between the black box and stepper motors to facilitate ease of switching between xyz movement to xaz rotary. When I disconnect the y and y2 axis and connect the a axis to y or y2 there is no power to hold the y axis steppers from any vibration that might move the gantry during a rotary cut.

What I would like to know is while both y steppers are disconnected from the black box could I plug in a dongle on both y axis steppers that would short the coils to provide a bit of stability and could this lengthly shorting have any future consequences.

    Thanks for your time,

    John

You can do that yes, but it won't hold sufficiently. Add mechanical clamping.

That sounds like a better idea. A clamp on each side would work quite well.
    Thanks,
    John
