With all the latest builds and mods focusing on bigger and badder machines I though I would post about a miniature Z axis slider that I built for a new Laser build called the Junk Box Mini Ox.

This slider is based on a modified 2040 v-slot to simulate C-Beam. It uses a unique stepper motor that has a traveling lead screw to move the z axis trolley.

    The slider.

End view. I cut out the center section with a hacksaw, used a drill press and file to make the link piece that ties the plate to the lead screw.

Where to cut the 2040 to make the mini C-Beam, remove all the green area.

I like the idea of a perforated bed! If that was accompanied with a pull-out tray from beneath, like a bird cage, I reckon you'd be onto a winner.
I don't think it would work on a larger machine without a lot of support, but it is something I will consider on my next build.
    Good job. :)

Do you have a link to where the stepper motor is available from?

This machine is a laser cnc and the perforated plate will allow the down exhaust of fumes for removal. I'll show more detail when I publish the build on the laser forum The drawer below is where all the electronics will be mounted.
