Hi all Its been a while since I posted on here purchased a CBeam many moons ago and as these things do, Its evolved, I have made my fair share of mistakes over the last 2 years but my double wide 1000 x 500mm machine has served me well (built long before the XL was born) way back in late 2015 C-Beam Double X I have recently started clearing out my workshop and have sold a few items - so time to service the CBeam and upgrade Bed evolution. Mk 1 - Double MDF Bed, fine for a while but not perfect Mk 2 - 4mm aluminium plate with MDF spoiler board Mk 3 - V-slot bed - MDF spoiler - getting there, Much better tolerance MK 4 - Cast Alloy 10mm T-Slot, not cheap but majorly strong X Axis upgrade - I'm going over to the XL design but with a 12 wheel carriage and moving Z axis and fixed spindle, parts on order with ryan at ooznest Pictures to follow shortly......................
Little update, Disassembled the C-Beam, Completely rebuilt the Z and X axis with a 12 wheel carriage on the X axis, flipped the Z axis so the whole Z moves - 6 bolt plate to plate fixing I got a bit carried away and upgraded the 2 steppers on the Y axis and the 1 on the X axis from 1.26nm to 1.93nm (53% torque increase) thats now lead to 3 new DM542 drivers Time to give me a bit more height in the X axis it was 250mm 2 pieces of 6020 in a L shape, Had some spare V-slot so that's now 330mm 2060 across the front and 2080 front to back, its now much more solid Next on the list is - install the limit switches yet to be wired but I have drill twisted the cable this evening ready, finish of the cable management (awaiting some heat shrink and some more convoluted tube) I may take a look at doing a cable chain (put the ultimaker to work) If there is any interest is will post some pics
A little bit of chaos, wiring is 75% done, soldered, heat shrink, convoluted tube, a bit of tape and more heat shrink - I'm going to redo the centre section as I'm not 100% happy with it Limit switches roughly in place, but I will set all that up later - next on the list is the controls board, all drawn up and printed I just need to mark out the material and drill the holes
The last few days I have been working on the controls 250x250mm 3mm plate to mount the psu and drivers, abs 3d printer backplate, Lumberg 4 pin plugs and sockets (SV40 and KFV40) for the steppers and Rean mini xlr plugs and sockets for the limit switches (RT4FC and RT4MP) Arduino Uno R3 With Proto board to aid easy maintenance/replacement and/or diagnosis
