Double trouble ... doesn't look like the 23HS30-3006D are currently available through Amazon (.ca or .com). It's rated at 2 amps in bipolar mode (3 amps in unipolar mode), which I use with a CNC xPro set at about 3/4. Shaft diameter : 6.35 mm.

Amazon.ca does have the 23HS30-2804S at 34$CAD, no shipping/customs/... with about 2 day delivery - often just 1 with Prime. Would need two, however. It has about 30% more torque, but rated at 2.8 amps (bipolar). It's 25$USD direct from Steppers Online (plus shipping, etc.)

Steppers Online has the exact replacements for about 25$USD, plus shipping (15$USD), customs, etc. I would only need one. It will take about a week to get to my front door IF I go pick it up at a US drop off point (extra 20$USD toll and fees).. That's 60$USD (close to 78$CAD) for just one stepper. It's a high premium to pay ...

OBPS does have a similar stepper, a tad less torque at 35$USD, plus shipping, customs, etc. a piece. But would need two. Makes that just as expensive an alternative ...

Since I would want the stepper yesterday, I'll have to go for the two from Amazon.ca at this point in time. I don't see myself upgrading (in a major way) myOX for at least a few months since it means some design work, testing iterations and costs... Must first generate cash to pay for its keep. Must first generate some cash. Must first generate some cash. ...

I'll have a spare 3006(d) for the existing Z axis and would do the extended Y axis since I already have the v-rails and belt for that (been sitting for a while now).

Cross fingers it won't overload the CNC xPro, rated at 2.5 amps per driver ... Which would be an issue with any alternative stepper (at least those listed above, all are rated 2.8 amps bipolar !)

Here goes nothing ... The adventure continues.

It actually works the other way around. High amp drivers can overload lesser motors. Running a 2.8A stepper on a 2.5A driver just means you won't get full power out of the stepper. Be sure though and keep the board cool if you're pulling all it is capable of or you may be dropping some steps.

That's a great price for a router. I too don't know if it's any good but I think I'll get one anyway. My local store shows 7 on hand. Better grab one or I'll be sorry I didn't later. :)

I got the router. It has soft start, something I have to get used to before I make a judgment if I like it or not. The plunge base seams decent. At full speed, 6 on the setting wheel, it's not too loud. Can't tell anything about it's durability, it will take more time using it to make a call on that.

Actually received the 2 steppers yesterday during the day (Canada Post left in my box, so probably mid afternoon). That was fast !

Installed the steppers late today, after the day job. Installed the new router. All is running great again. Yeah !!!! Of course, I did mess up the rewiring - the Y steppers were going in opposite directions ! At least it was seen doing very short moves (1-10 mm) so no harm done.

Ran a "quick" job to see if all was fine, before even doing any real calibration. Steppers are very similar to ones being replaced (and from same source : Steppers Online). The previous one were dual shaft and could be set as either unipolar or bipolar. Still, I should double check all parameters just to be sure.

    Halloween 2018 skeleton - large.jpg It's about 37" wide by 20" tall, cut out of 1/2" plywood.

Of course, I didn't update the g-code file so it ran in real slow (30ipm) and shallow (1/16") mode. Used the old 1/8" end mill as well; not the sharpest tool in the garage. It took nearly 2 hours... plenty of time to see if it would mess up and to pull the plug when it did. Router was actually set to its lowest speed (11k rpm). I think the end mill is a 4 flute - just grabbed an old one from the bin, without paying much attention beyond the diameter.

    It didn't mess up. :)

The router is much quieter, even compared to the previous router before I messed it up.

The X stepper might have to be replaced. It seems to ... vibrate, especially when cutting in a diagonal. The closer to 45d, the worse the chatter / vibration ... grazing of sorts. I will keep an eye on it for now. Before the latest repairs, I could see he tool bounce when doing Y only movement. Now that is gone as well.

I didn't upgrade the Y axis from 750 mm to 1000 mm as planned earlier. Nor did I change the belts. I wanted to make certain I was doing the right thing replacing the steppers (and router). I would also of needed to build an extension to the table (thinking of adding some square steel tubing to rest the myOX on. Would also of needed a new spoil board ... and proper support for it. So it will be for an other time ...

Replacing the two Y steppers was relatively easy, but long. Removed the centre most top two wheels to access the stepper mounting bolts, blabla ... I just took my time.

Right now, I just want to run a few more jobs on the refreshed myOX ... regaining confidence in my still limited CNC abilities.

I might have time to cut a bunch of Christmas themed items to post around, possibly making a few dollars in the process. There is a couple of local shows in late November as well ... I have to start charging for the work. Time to get serious with this hobby of mine.

I'll start 2019, in only two months or so, as a small home business...

Looks great! I recently expanded my workbee to 1500x1500 so I could do the same, feed in through Y, but I'm finding it's just too big! Thinking of doing a similar cut down, and then it would also allow me to use the extra extrusion to beef up the base.
