I am trying to plan the dust collection for a Lead 1010 build I am starting on, and I am in the weeds on what to buy for dust extraction. I don't have a ton of room for a giant dust collector, and had been thinking of maybe a Festool Dust extractor or some other small vac for the build, but I want to make sure I get something sufficient to clear chips and dust from the enclosure. I have concerns about trying to run an old craftsman shopvac for 1-4+hours at a time. I would love for the dust extraction to live under the table, but if a single stage collector is something I need to be looking at, I am all ears. Budget would be $100-$500 if possible. What would you suggest?
Checkout around the 2min05 mark of the Swing Arm video: for a quick demo of the Bucktool 1HP 6.5AMP Floor / Wall-mount Dust Collectors we use around our own machines here in the lab - very happy with them, 2 micron filter bags - we use them in the video studio too - and no issues with dust
I got a Harbor Freight dust collector for about $170. 4" hose. It take up about 7' of vertical space and the base is about 2' x 3'. (Just checked and they apparently want $230 now)
Thank you both! I like the looks of the Upright model of the Bucktools but it isn't available currently. I will have to look into the Harbor Freight one around the holidays.
I started using a shop vac, but found it way too noisy. I bought a 1hp dust collector and made a cyclone collection system. It's fairly compact and just takes up a bit of space behind my machine. The swing arm is made out of 4" tubing with 3" hose coming out the end to the dust shoe on the spindle.
Not a bad way to handle it! I am still considering my options. I don't have a shoe designed or bought yet so I will likely wait to be able to match it. I am working on a torsion box table top at the moment, hoping to have the top completed this weekend then come the portion.
What dust shoe is that? That is my next line of research. I could build one, but I would prefer buying my first I think.
