Dear all, I have set up a 2 axis rig with two paired stepper motors for the Y-axis and an isolated motor for the X-Axis. all of them are driven by the BlackBox Motion control. To move the motors I am using Openbuilds CONTROL software. The motors on the Y-axis work fine, but the third one does not: the shaft shakes left and right no matter the desired direction or the velocity, both when on the rail and without being connected to anything. I tried to plug the motor using the cables and driver port of the working motors but the result is the same. I checked the pins with a multimeter and they coils seem to be intact ( I get a 1st pin with 3rd and 4th with 6th) Is there a way to further fix, analyse this issue? Thanks a lot
thanks for the reply. I don't think it's miswiring because the other motors work fine and using the wires and ports of the working motor on the 'defective' doesnt help
The symptom is typical of either mismatched/crossed pair wiring, or only 3 or the 4 wires making contact. Measurements (ohm) same on both coils you indentified?
If all else fails and the motor itself still seems to be good, check resistance of +A/-A and +B/-B directly from the driver ports inside the BlackBox. There can be other errors in the path- bad plug terminal crimping, solder joint, whatever. Unlikely to make it through QC, but you never know.
You didn't mention it, so I'll ask - did you test the wiring from the defective motor on the good one? Alex.
thank you all for your replies and your interest, in the end I had two miswired motors and one (the reversed Y2) correctly wired which lead me to believe that all of the wiring was correct. I re-tested the pin with the multimeter and redid the wiring and now it works like a charm. beginners mistake, i guess thanks
