1. Question. I have been running 2 Nema 23 Stepper motors side by side in sync. They have been turning at the same speed. Also in Mac 3 they are all set up with the same settings for steps / speed and tourque under motor tuning. One motor sounds a bit different than the other one. The motor controllers have also been set the same. Pulse Rev Dip switches is 400. Is t his normal? Video of the difference in motor sound. 2. Question What does Pulse / Rev Dip switch table have to do with setting up motors? Micro Step Revolution? Is this the same thing your doing in Mac 3 under Motor Tuning under steps setting?
Could be a quality control issue, but it seems they're both happy and not missing steps. Have you tried slaving one to the other through the Mach3 settings?
I need 4 separate axis control. Also never used mac 3 before. Its all new to me. Next thing is to read up more on Mac 3, get my wires straightened out more, and order some C-Beams to complete the build.
This post was about questioning the difference in sound between two motors being run from "mach3" by two separate axis controls. I recommended to try them slaved to the same axis from the program to see if there is still a difference in sound.....with the possibility that this might be caused by poor quality control. Your response doesn't follow.
I never used Mac 3 before so I don't understand what slave means. I suppose your saying to sext X axis to run both of the motors at the same time? This will tell me what if they sound the same or don't sound the same?
Thanks. I work on phone systems and have never done electrical work or diagnose electric or CNC equipment. Next week end I will be playing with all the motors to see how they sound and run. I still have a lot of work to do to my case.
If they sound different then either the driver or motor may have something different going on. It may OR may not be a bad thing. I think either way...if both motors are repeatable and end up in the same location you're in good shape. You could swap motors and drivers to see if there is any difference too.
Yea, that is on a list of things to check out for this weekend. I spent this weekend wiring up the extension wires for the motors. I want to run them through a big list of test. Also I do wander if the parallel card is going to be fast enough. I can still buy a compact small computer board with DB25 built in.
Regarding your initial post... If you Find that it is either a motor or a driver that is causing a difference in motor harmony then you could swap them out considering you have 4 to work with Don't worry about speed until you get your build done. If you do you might end up spending hundreds you may not need. Get the motors and drivers paired nicely, machine in order, run it, then determine if your electronics need an upgrade.
I don't think I meant speed...more the smoothness and control that higher level processing such as a smooth stepper provides. All of which you don't know if your current setup requires at the moment.
