I tried to 3D-print a gas tank for a model car but I found out that the STL file had errors - self-intersecting surfaces found. I tried Simplify 3D but it won't fix the errors. I think that Autodesk bought the company that have NetFabb and they charged almost $5000 for it. Any suggestions? I bought the STL files for a model car from someone on his website.

Yes, give Netfabb a try - I use it all the time where 3D p[rinting is concerned, Bear in mind though, it won't always fix everything but will give an indication as to where the fault lies - if you have the software to fix it.
