Im in the planning stages of my own home brew machine. I have started to purchase the components, but have yet to do electronics.

Im pushing towards the black box. I will be using f360 or solidworks 2019 for design/cam.

My machine will be using 1605 ball screw (2 on the y and one on the x), a t8 screw on the z (this was done due to space constraints).

Is the bb a good solution or would you recommend another? also what control software would you recommend for a custom machine? ob controller, ugcs?...

    Thanks

In my opinion, the Blackbox is a great choice and at its current price, it is a steal. BlackBox Motion Control System I wish I had room for another machine so I would have a reason to buy one at that $119 price tag.

I have not used either of those control software products so I can't speak to them. I used GRBL panel, and then switched to Eslcam for all of its probing and center finding features. But that was before the OB controller came out. I love Estlcam and have no regrets dropping the $59 for a license. In fact the circular center finding feature payed for itself for a one-off part I needed to modify so I could fix something, but had OB Controller been out prior to me going the Estlcam route, I would have tried the OB controller first. Especially with all these smart people on here coming up with custom post processors and macros for it.
